What’s Next

  1. City Council will conduct public hearings about commercialization of cannabis and medical cannabis
  2. Existing dispensaries operating in compliance with City law will get “priority” in application process
  3. Unauthorized cannabis activity still faces criminal penalties, civil fines, and disconnection of water and power
  4. Taxes Start on 1/1/18:
    1. $100 for each $1,000 gross receipts of cannabis sales;
    2. $50 for each $1,000 of gross receipts from medical cannabis sales
    3. $10 for each $1,000 of gross receipts from cannabis transportation, testing, research
    4. $20 for each $1,000 of gross receipts from cannabis manufacturing, cultivation or other commercialization

Taxes, in other words

1.0% on recreational sales

0.5% on medical cannabis sales

0.1% on cannabis transportation, testing, research

0.2% on cannabis manufacturing, cultivation or other commercialization

First Time Taxes Due: July 2018
